Three to four minutes after injection came tingling, trembling, mild nausea, dilated pupils and a faster pulse with raised blood pressure, accompanied almost immediately by visual illusions that built into true hallucinations. These took the form of fast-changing, brilliantly colored ornamental scenes; faces looked mask-like and mood rose at times to euphoria.
