The reporter retained a layered self-awareness early on — knowing they were aware, and knowing that they knew — and at one point identified with being an ocean. Continuity of consciousness broke somewhere along the way, likened to an alcohol blackout, and awareness returned to the sound of their own ongoing vocalizations, which curiously continued unbroken by breathing. They gradually sang themselves back to ordinary awareness.
