The experience opened with tension and low mood, then grew simultaneously darker and brighter: physical discomfort and labored breathing coexisted with an ecstatic appreciation of trees, water, and eventually an extraordinarily beautiful evening sky. A choking scare with a drink left a lasting hyper-awareness of swallowing. Sleep was nearly absent that night, and the author felt aftereffects for days while ranking it among the deepest learning experiences of their life.
