Approaching the day as a test of the material as a writing aid, the author found notable color enhancement at one hour and, by the third hour, a growing complexity with a curious shielding quality that kept underlying material just out of conscious reach. The body wanted repose while a restless energy conflicted with it, making comfortable writing difficult; prose flowed better than poetry. Around the fourth hour the earlier serenity and mild intoxication gave way to sharper emotional tension and a mildly irritated self-view.
